The Curriculum
Birth
To Three Matters
Birth
to three matters is a framework to support children in their earliest
years and is the latest practical guidance for people working with
babies and toddlers. It has been backed and funded by the government
because research shows that a child’s earliest years are very
important to their later development.
Framework
Structure
The framework has been organised into four sections known as
“Aspects”. Each aspect has been sub-divided into four components.
The
Four Aspects
-
A Strong Child Social & Emotional development. This is about helping your child to
feel confident, self –assured and enjoy being with others.
-
A
Skilful Communicator Learning to talk and communicate is an important skill for young
children to master. This aspect looks at the importance of listening and
sensitively responding to babies and toddlers as well as looking at ways
to actively promote language through stories, rhymes and toys.
-
A
Competent Learner Toddlers are curious and ready to explore their immediate world. We know
from research that actively moving and exploring helps brain
development. This aspect of learning looks at how to help toddlers
understand and also respond
to their world by, for example being given new sensations and
also items to feel, touch and hold.
-
A
Healthy Child This looks at developing the “whole child”. This means that food,
safety and hygiene is also included. This aspect of learning is also
about making sure that children are emotionally secure and also learning
to take decisions.
The Early
Years Foundation Stage
Child
Development
Cheeky Monkeys is a traditional
multicultural nursery offering children the opportunity to learn,
respecting and welcoming different cultures, beliefs & backgrounds.
Being Multicultural we are able to give the children the opportunity to
learn about and respect different cultures, beliefs and backgrounds to
their own. We provide a well balanced diet and vegetarian diets where
required. Due to the various dietary requirements that certain children
have we must please ask you NOT to allow your child to bring with them
sweets, crisps, chewing gum etc… as this may be a danger to other
children who may come into contact with these items.
All our subjects are taught through play
in group activities or one to one, as we know learning can be fun
providing the correct equipment is presented in a safe and inviting way
to stimulate the child’s own thirst for knowledge. The activities the
children undertake are a mixture of structured activities, group work,
and free play or child directed / initiated activities.
- Personal Social & Emotional
We will encourage your child to be confident in trying new activities,
to initiate ideas and speak in a familiar group, to dress and undress
themselves and manage their own personal hygiene with adult support,
whilst playing in the home corner, water play, cooking etc…your child
will learn to share, take turns and interact with peers in order to
develop a respect for their own culture and beliefs and those of other
people.
- Communication Language & Literacy
We give your child the opportunity to listen to stories, songs, rhymes
and poems, which relate to questions, comments and actions. Your child
will be encouraged to develop an interest in books by reading or
looking at books of their own choice, which at level 1 are encouraged
to work with flash cards as well. We daily promote their writing
skills some children lead onto early letter formation.
- Problem Solving Reasoning &
Numeracy
Using their language skills, your child will be able to say
numbers in order, they will be aware when they find one more or one
less from a group of up to five objects. When playing memory games and
board games they will be able to relate to subtraction and addition.
- Knowledge & Understanding of the
World
When a child starts to ask questions about why things happen and
how things work With the activities we set up it enables them to
investigate and explore their surroundings.
- Physical Development
At Cheeky Monkeys we provide a variety of equipment and tools for
the children to develop their physical skills promoting control,
co-ordination and basic skills.
- Creative Development
A variety of materials will be provided for creative activities so
that your child can explore colour, texture, shape and smells. Your
child will also be able to express feelings through art, music, dance,
role-play and imaginative play. Cheeky Monkeys provides a variety of
activities to allow children to make their own choices to suit their
individual needs. Children are always encouraged to join in but never
compelled. All activities are prepared so that they are apprpriate to
each age group. Each child is an individual and will only progress to
the next stage when they are ready.
- Key Workers
A Key Worker will be assigned to your child and will be dedicated
to encourage, support and develop your child’s skills and ensure that
records of development are kept and individual needs are met for your
child. The Key worker will also be involved with building a portfolio,
